Uffe Ellemann-Jensen Memorial Lecture: Toomas Hendrik Ilves
1. november 2023 kl. 17.00 - 18.30 CET
Note: The venue for the reception has been updated.
The Danish Foreign Policy Society is pleased to announce that we are launching the Uffe Ellemann-Jensen Memorial Lecture Series. This is an annual event to honour the legacy of former Danish Minister for Foreign Affairs Uffe Ellemann-Jensen. We want to promote his ideals of liberal thinking, freedom, democracy, international cooperation, and active engagement in the world.
Uffe Ellemann-Jensen was Chairman of the board of The Danish Foreign Policy Society from 1993 to 2012 and continued as an Honorary Chairman of the board and patron of our association until his death in June 2022.
As Minister for Foreign Affairs, Uffe Ellemann-Jensen was dedicated to supporting the Baltic countries’ independence. He played an important role in making Denmark one of the first countries in the world to restore diplomatic relations with Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania after the dissolution of the Soviet Union.
In that regard, we are very honored to inform you that President Toomas Hendrik Ilves, former president of Estonia, will give the first memorial lecture. After Estonia’s secession from the Soviet Union, President Toomas Hendrik Ilves became Ambassador to the United States and later Mexico. He was elected President of the Republic of Estonia in 2006 and re-elected in 2011. In his lecture, President Toomas Hendrik Ilves will share his thoughts on Uffe Ellemann-Jensen’s conceptualization of an active foreign policy at a time of significant changes in Europe.
For attendees arriving by car, we recommend parking at Jeudan Parkinghouse on Dronning Tværgade 4.
