Hong Kong and China – one country, one system?

4. juni 2020 kl. 11.00 - 12.00 CEST

—This event will be in English—

While the world is still occupied with COVID-19, China has tightened their grip on Hong Kong. Before the pandemic started in East Asia, the Hong Kong pro-democracy protest had been continuously on the streets, every week, demanding that China respects the post-colonial transition period of 50 years. The protestors believe that the principle “one country, two systems” has been breached by the Chinese government, and they are demanding justice. The latest development in this situation has taken place within the last few weeks, where China has introduced a new security law. Many are calling the imposition of the new law has the end of Hong Kong’s unique freedom.

The Danish Foreign Policy Society invites you to an online midday conversation with Professor  Steve Tsang from SOAS China Institute in London. Steve Tsang is a renowned researcher that has authored an impressive number of books, contributions, journals and articles. He appears frequently as a commentator for news programs around the world. It is with great pleasure that we invite our members to this webinar.

In the conversation we will discuss what China has been doing while we have been occupied with COVID-19 this spring. What is in the future for Hong Kong and how can and should the rest of the world react?

The event is free for members of The Danish Foreign Policy Society. Registration link will be sent to all members. Become a member here.
