European Challenges: The Hungarian perspective

4. oktober 2018 kl. 15.00 - 16.00 CEST

Hungary has been a member of the EU since 2004 and the population is highly supportive of EU membership. According to the latest PEW research, 67 pct. of the population supports EU membership. However, a dispute has arisen over whether Hungary is compliant or not with the Lisbon Treaty in relation to core EU values. On the 12th of September 2018, the European Parliament debated and voted for invoking article 7 of the Lisbon Treaty against Hungary. If adopted, the European Council might suspend Hungary’s voting rights.

Mr. Pál Péter Schmitt is Deputy State Secretary for EU Affairs at the Prime Minister’s Office of Hungary and is in Denmark to lead bilateral consultations about the future of Europe vis-à-vis the European Union.

In the Danish Foreign Policy Society Mr. Pál Péter Schmitt will present the Hungarian EU objectives. The meeting will be moderated by director of the Danish Foreign Policy society, Charlotte Flindt Pedersen.
