Michael Franc: American Politics after the US Mid-term Elections

19. november 2018 kl. 16.00 - 17.30 CET

After countless polls, debates, campaigning and endless speculation, the 2018 U.S. mid-term elections – which have been called the most important ever – are over and a new political cycle is poised to take place. What kind of United States do we see after this election? What is the impact on potential U.S. policy-making both foreign and domestic in the coming years? Michael Franc, a longtime veteran of Washington, D.C. policymaking, will analyze the results of the U.S. mid-term elections and provide his take on political developments in U.S. policymaking leading up to the 2020 presidential election.

Michael Franc has served as policy director for House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy. He also served as the vice president of government relations for the Heritage Foundation from 1997-2013.  He completed a tour of duty as communications director for former House Majority Leader Dick Armey (R-TX) and has worked for the U.S. Department of Education and the Office of National Drug Control Policy.

Today Michael Franc is the Hoover Institution’s director of Washington, D.C. programs, where he oversees research and outreach initiatives to promote ideas and scholarship in the U.S. capital. He also holds an appointment as a research fellow at Hoover. Franc has a BA from Yale University and a Juris Doctorate from Georgetown University.

Charlotte Flindt Pedersen, director of the Danish Foreign Policy Society, will moderate the subsequent discussion.
