The Danish Foreign Policy Society welcomes Joel Hernández García, Undersecretary for Multilateral Affairs and Human Rights of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mexico. Mr. Hernández García is a leading figure in Mexican foreign affairs and boasts a prestigious legal academic background that has enabled him to make an important contribution to the Mexican Foreign Service.

His commitment to multilateral relations and human rights allowed him to build a brilliant career, holding remarkable positions such as Director General for the United Nations Organization, Legal Advisor of the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs and more recently President of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR). At present, his role as Undersecretary makes him one of the figures best placed to implement the dialogue between Mexico and its allies, fostering greater awareness of the country’s role on the world stage.

Taking into consideration Denmark’s intention to establish new alliances and eliminate dependencies that endanger its stability, Mexico represents a vast area of opportunity, both economic and political, in a region with little Danish presence. Due to its geographical location, the growth of its market, the proximity to the largest market in the world (North America), and the trade agreement and the coincidence of values with the European Union, Mexico is in a position to offer attractive possibilities to achieve business expansion focused on the green transition, the axis of the Danish economy.

Likewise, the similarity in positions at the multilateral level and Mexico’s experience in the Security Council favour a productive dialogue aimed at defending the Sustainable Development Goals, strengthening multilateral institutions and organizations, and respecting the rule of law, disarmament, and peace.

As the North American country prepares for general elections scheduled for this June, meeting with Mr. Hernández García will be a moment of dialogue and learning. The event is carried out in cooperation with the Embassy of Mexico in Denmark.
