The Future of NATO with Stefanie Babst

8. juni 2026   17.00 - 18.30

In an ever-changing security environment, NATO faces a range of internal and external challenges that test its cohesion and ability to adapt. From the Russian invasion of Ukraine and hybrid attacks, cyber operations, and information warfare, the Alliance navigates one of the most volatile and multifaceted strategic environments since the Cold War.

Furthermore, uncertainty surrounding US commitment to transatlantic security, intensified by criticism of NATO, threats to the sovereignty of an ally, demands for greater European responsibility and disagreements on the policy towards Russia, has further deepened political tensions within the alliance and revived debate about the prospect of a more European-led NATO.

These developments are not only shaping the strategic environment NATO must respond to, but also the way the alliance is analysed and understood from within.

Stefanie Babst draws on extensive experience from inside NATO itself. She has served as Deputy Assistant Secretary-General in the Public Diplomacy Division and later headed NATO’s Strategic Foresight Team, where she worked to anticipate emerging threats and long-term challenges to the alliance.

It is therefore a particular pleasure for The Danish Foreign Policy Society to host her in conversation with former ambassador to NATO
Carsten Søndergaard on NATO’s future.

Guests are welcome, but registration is required.

The event will be livestreamed.
