Nuclear Security, Disarmament, and Accountability in the Face of Russian War on Ukraine

As Russia continues to occupy the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant and weaponize civilian nuclear infrastructure, questions of nuclear security, accountability, and international law have become central to European and global security.
On 5 December, the Danish Foreign Policy Society and Ukraine House in Denmark, will host leading experts for an in-depth discussion on the challenges and lessons emerging from this unprecedented situation.
Speakers include:
• Dr. Mariana Budjeryn, Senior Research Associate at Harvard’s Belfer Center and author of “Inheriting the Bomb: The Collapse of the USSR and the Nuclear Disarmament of Ukraine” (2023), offers insight into Ukraine’s denuclearization and its global implications.
• Senior Researcher Denys Sultanhaliiev and Legal Counselor Yuriy Uhryn from Truth Hounds, co-authors of “Seizing Power: Occupation, Torture, and Nuclear Safety Breaches at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant”, are presenting their findings on legal accountability and systemic violations of nuclear safety norms.
• Matias Seidelin is a trained historian and has worked as Jyllands-Posten's US correspondent from 2021 to 2024, residing in Washington. Since February 2025, he has been employed as a senior correspondent for defense and security policy at OLFI. Matias will provide perspectives on the implications for Danish and European security policy.
• Charlotte Flindt Pedersen is the director of the Danish Foreign Policy Society. With several years of experience in Ukraine and European security, Charlotte will also provide perspectives on the implications for Danish and European security policy.
• Michael Jarlner is an international commentator at Politiken and will moderate the discussion
