U35: NO - How Chile Said No to a Dictator and What We Can Learn From It
13. november 2025 17.30 - 20.30
A part of U35’s event-series: Latin America in Focus
Join us for an evening exploring one of Latin America’s most inspiring democratic transitions through the acclaimed Chilean film NO (2012), directed by Pablo Larraín.
Before the screening, we are honored to welcome Felipe Cousiño, Ambassador of Chile to Denmark, for a short conversation on Chile’s path from dictatorship to democracy - and what this experience can teach us about the power of grassroots movements, civic engagement, and foreign policy in defending democracy today: In Latin America, Eastern Europe and abroad.
Set during Chile’s 1988 plebiscite, NO tells the story of how creativity, communication, and collective action helped bring an end to Chilean Dictator Augusto Pinochet’s military rule. The film is both a historical portrait and a timeless reminder of how citizens can shape their political destiny.
Come for thoughtful discussion, international perspectives, and an inspiring cinematic experience that connects past struggles for freedom to present-day challenges to democracy worldwide.
There will be the obligatory cinema snacks, such as popcorn and drinks. After the event Latin American empanadas will be served.
If you have any questions regarding the event, or if it is your first event with U35 and you perhaps don’t have anyone to come along with, feel free to contact Board Member of U35, Felipe Oscar Bonilla Branner on felipebranner@gmail.com or +4531229666, and he will take good care of you.
The event is open to everyone, but registration is required.
