We are honored to invite you to an exclusive lecture by Ambassador Kurt Volker, a leading expert in U.S. foreign and national security policy and a distinguished diplomat with decades of experience in international security. Ambassador Volker has served in senior roles within the U.S. State Department and the National Security Council.
He served as U.S. Special Representative for Ukraine Negotiations from 2017 to 2019, as U.S. Ambassador to NATO from 2008-2009, and he was Special Assistant to Ambassador Richard Holbrooke during the Bosnia negotiations in 1995. He has also led the McCain Institute for International Leadership and is currently a managing director at BGR Group in Washington, D.C., as well as a board member at the American University in Kyiv.
In this lecture, Ambassador Volker will provide insights into the ongoing peace negotiations between Ukraine, Russia, and the United States.
Despite announcing a ceasefire in April, Russia has continued its military operations in Ukraine, most recently culminating in a devastating attack on Kyiv that claimed 12 lives and injured at least 90 others. In a notable and somewhat unexpected move, President Trump subsequently voiced rare public criticism of Russia. In his lecture, Kurt Volker will examine what the drivers, interests, and underlying assumptions are in the US approach to brokering peace between Russia and Ukraine.
